Lake Geneva Area Offers Easy Chicago, Milwaukee Commutes

Communities such Lake Geneva are still attracting commuters just as they did when wealthy Victorian Chicagoans escaped to their summer homes there during the great Chicago Fire. The area still boasts magnificent Gilded Age mansions, and many more practical homes for the commuters of today. Lake Geneva "If you like lots of specialty shops, large executive homes, condominium complexes, surrounded by Lake Geneva and surrounding lakes (for whatever your pleasure ... fishing, sailing, swimming, pontooning), and enjoy living in a tourist area, this is it," say Realtors Ron and Diana Dahlberg "We have the best of both worlds ... old world charm and contemporary lifestyles." Explain the Dahlbergs, "Southeastern Wisconsin, Lake Geneva, is a fast-growing market, especially because of its location between the larger cities! It is an area of many resorts, affluence and opportunity! The housing market is ever growing ... condominiums and new construction continue to pave the way! Many people come to Lake Geneva from the Illinois and Milwaukee areas. "Sales for last year compared to this year appear somewhat down, but not significantly," they continue. "This is due mainly by the effect of the tragedy of 9/11/01." Kenosha "In 1998, Kenosha was voted as one of the top places to bring up your family in Reader"s Digest," say the Dahlbergs. "Located halfway between Chicago and Milwaukee with train services either way makes commuting a breeze. Kenosha is right off the lake and yet within minutes of camping, hiking, trails and shopping." Kenosha is one of the nation"s fastest growing markets, with a booming housing market with many new condominiums and homes. "Many new families come to Kenosha from the Illinois area finding a suitable and "quieter" place to abide," say the Dahlbergs. "Sales year-to-date versus last year are still down, but overall holding steady. Interest rates are still holding strong in the lower 6 percentile. We have not seen rates like this in 40 years." Pleasant Prairie "Close to the Illinois border," say the Dalhbergs, "Pleasant Prairie is easy to commute whether you work in Milwaukee, Racine, Kenosha or Northern Illinois. A little bit of country yet close to all the amenities of the city lifestyle. Taxes are still manageable but growing. Building on prime land is becoming a premium." Explain the Dahlbergs, "Pleasant Prairie is a fast growing market, especially because of its location between the larger cities. The most positive aspect of living away from the main city is we don"t deal with the traffic congestion and standing in line that the larger cities must contend with on a daily basis. There is a variety of living styles here ... whether you choose the prestigious Carol Beach Estates and want to be close to Lake Michigan, or if you prefer the community style of living in subdivisions, condominiums or a strong residential area ... Pleasant Prairie has it all." Somers "Somers is a very mature and settled area of Kenosha County where we are known for the lowest taxes," share the Dahlbergs. "A highly desired location for many, Somers is a growing community especially for new subdivisions and condominiums. Because it is such a wonderful place to live, most of its residents stay, thus there are not a lot of homes for sale in Somers, WI." They continue, "Somers is a slower growth market than some of its surrounding municipalities (such as Pleasant Prairie or Racine County). Our geographic location is highly desirable as we are nestled between the larger cities!" Click here to view current Market Conditions in your location.

Your Home Is A Liability
I hate to share the news with you, but your house is a liability. This month, my house has cost me more than $2,000. On the other hand, it has grown in value, at about a rate of 1.5 percent this month -- that would be roughly $2,000 as well -- but it"s still a liability. Let me explain.
